HB 500 Approved: Texas House Approves $100 Million for Child Care Services
In a landmark decision, the Texas House has taken a monumental step forward for families across the state by approving $100 MILLION for Child Care Services in the Supplemental Budget. This unprecedented investment marks the first time the Texas House has allocated such a significant sum specifically for child care, signaling a major shift in prioritizing the needs of working families and young children. This investment could potentially lead to:

  • Increased access to affordable child care

  • Support for child care providers

  • Improved early learning opportunities

This historic move is being hailed as a crucial victory for Texas families, who have long advocated for increased support for affordable and accessible child care. The substantial funding is expected to make a tangible difference in the lives of parents, children, and child care providers throughout the state.

SB 599 Passes Senate, Aiming to Expand Home-Based Child Care
SB 599 is designed to decrease significant hurdles for Texans who wish to establish home-based child care services. By streamlining the process and removing unnecessary barriers, the bill aims to increase the number of available child care options, providing much-needed relief to working parents. With increased access to home-based child care, parents will have more flexible and affordable options, allowing them to pursue their careers while ensuring their children are in safe and nurturing environments.

The shortage of child care in Texas has been a persistent problem. Many parents face long waitlists, high costs, and limited options, which can force them to make difficult decisions about their careers and their children’s care. Keep an eye on the progress of SB 599 as it moves through the legislative process. Your voice and continued advocacy are crucial in ensuring that this bill becomes a law and makes a real difference in the lives of Texas families.
